Copied and pasted from AutoEvolution By 1996, when the forth generation Evo was released, the car had already become immensely popular. Engines were transversely mounted for better weight distribution while the nose was completely redesigned with a larger, lower front bumper and a pair of big circular fog lights as part of the new vehicle's distinctive features. Trim levels were kept the same with a choice of RS and GSR, both having been available with a new power unit that saw both a power and torque output increase. The freshly mounted twin scroll turbocharged 2.0 L delivered 276 hp and 352 Nm of maximum torque with the latter having been evenly distributed through Mitsubishi's electronically controlled differential known as AYC (Active Yaw Control).
