Don't think, even for a second, that I didn't know about this. Everyone knows about it. And it's horrible. I'm no professional singer, and I can't sing very well, as I am a twelve-year-old experiencing puberty, one of the worse things in my life. Being Black, this whole thing sort of... Enlightened me in a way. Sure, I knew about racism, segregation, police brutality, injustice, and all that stuff. I go to school. I've seen the news. I watch Black-ish at 8pm. But what I didn't know was how much our people are hated, beaten, not cared about, or not even thought of by the people who are supposed to protect us. This had a heavy impact on me. I watched a Black-ish episode one day, and right after it turned off, there was a black screen. It counted down the 8 minutes and 46 seconds that Floyd was lying on the ground, asking to breathe. Calling for help. Wondering what was going on. He called for his mom, who was already dead and in heaven. And that period of time is long. Long enough for the cop to rethink what he was doing. Long enough for other cops to intervene. People around them shouted to let him go. And the only thing that cop said to the colored man on the road, begging for his life, was "Relax." WHAT?! What type of stupid, inhuman, sick thing is that?! Now, I'm not here to say that all cops are bad. Far from it. I'm not here to say that all Caucasian people are bad. I have plenty of Caucasian friends in real life, and I'm sure on Scratch too. What I am here for, however, is justice. Justice for George Floyd. Justice for Trayvon Martin. Justice for the unarmed colored man who was tasered by a cop in Virginia. I. WANT. JUSTICE. Justice for everyone. Some say that Blacks are free. Sure, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. helped pave the way. Our ancestors struggled and died as slaves so that we didn't have to. But we still have a long way to go. If an unarmed Black man that did nothing wrong can get killed by police, then is that really free? If the cop was Black, and the man White, we all know how that would've played out. The cop would have been shot down, pushed off, and arrested on the spot. There are three things that we Black people need to know when talking to a cop. "Yes, sir. No, sir. Thank you, sir." And then pray that we get away alive. George Floyd could have been anyone. My dad, my grandpop, my uncle, Barack Obama, anyone. But hey, they don't care if we die or not. They only care about themselves. That's fine. What are they gonna do now that I spoke out about it? Kill me? Kill my family? Stick their knees in my neck? Beat me? Shoot me? Whip me? Hang me? They could do any of those awful things. Because I'm just a Black person, right?

Description

Think about it. If you listened to my horrible singing in its entirety, George Floyd would have still been on the ground under that cop's knee. Black Lives Matter. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Song: I Know Where I've Been - Hairspray P.S. ~Please note that I hit some deep notes; I have a wide range, being able to sing Soprano, Alto, and sometimes Tenor. Yes, I am still a girl ( ._.)~
