Click the green flag and listen to me talk about advertising for way too long! If you want the summary, here it is: 1. Advertising isn’t inherently a bad thing; there are times when it’s appropriate, and times when it’s not. Advertising on places like your profile, the Show And Tell section of the Discussion Forums, and studios designed to get projects noticed are perfectly valid! Also, doing things like entering contests, joining MAPs, or trying to get curated are good ways of getting noticed, too. 2. Places where it’s not ok to advertise your content are other people’s profiles or projects (unless they give you permission), or studios/forums not related to your project. This can be considered disrespectful, since you’re using what someone else made to try and get views. Also, “asking for feedback” can be considered advertising if you don’t really know the person; I’d suggest asking for feedback from your friends on the website, or people you know in real life! 3. I totally understand wanting your projects to get noticed; I do, too! Back when I first started, I did a bunch of things to get noticed: I got curated a few times and entered contests to see if I could win. But, I never advertised; that wasn’t the right way to do things. And guess what? It worked! Look where I am now. I guess you could say I’m evidence that you don’t need to advertise? Idk :P 4. Don’t expect your projects to instantly get popular; that’s not how things work. Your project could blow up, but it might go completely unnoticed as well. Some people might check your project out and just not like it. If you want your projects to get popular, make sure they’re good enough to get popular. Compare what you’ve made with projects on the front page and see if the quality matches up. If not, that’s ok, just keep practicing! If it does, and you find respectful ways to get noticed, I’m sure one day you’ll get a chance in the spotlight. 5. Some people have suggested adding a feature to get unpopular projects more attention; features like this kind of already exist, like the recent section of the explore page, but I do agree something like this would be nice. I’d suggest a tab on the home page that shows relatively new projects that aren’t remixes made by Scratchers with less than ~200 followers, maybe under the top loved tab. But, it’s up to the Scratch Team to put something like this in. 6. Please don’t get mad at famous people when they say to stop advertising; they aren’t trying to be mean or entitled, they just get spam like that a lot and would prefer to not have it. It starts to get annoying when all the comments on your profile and projects are advertisements; if you were in their shoes, wouldn’t you agree? So yeah, that’s what I’ve got. I just thought it would be good to expand on it after a lot of people asked questions about this after the AAA campaign.
Sorry if this is not my real voice :(
