Copied and pasted from AutoEvolution The fifth generation of the Ford Explorer was unveiled just days ahead of the 2019 Detroit Auto Show and it signifies an entirely new approach from Ford for the beloved Explorer nameplate. Unlike its direct predecessor, the new one has reverted to use a rear-wheel-drive-based platform, which in this case is shared with the CD6, also found in the second-generation Lincoln Aviator. The engine offerings at start include a 2.3-liter turbocharged four-cylinder that delivers 300 horsepower and 310 lb-ft of torque, and an optional 3.0-liter turbocharged V6, which is good for about 365 horsepower and 380 lb-ft of torque on 93-octane gas, says Ford. Those numbers also make the sixth-generation Explorer the most powerful in history.
