I found the Aaron Donald photo on Google. The Madden Curse is a curse where players appearing on the Madden cover get injuries and miss games. The Madden Curse started with Garrison Hearst. He was the first player to appear on the Madden cover without John Madden occupying the cover. John Madden doesn't really have anything to do with the NFL anymore, so EA Sports should just call it Ultimate NFL. But they have called it Madden for way too long. Brett Favre retired, but then, he got out of retirement and eventually, he signed with the New York Jets before moving to the Minnesota Vikings. You might not know a lot of the cover athletes, maybe because they have retire, maybe because no one remembers them.
