Description

- Flag Facts : Episode Two - (Any Homophobic comments will be deleted. Please keep those opinions to yourself, thank you!) Welcome to Flag Facts, my series where I look at a LGBTQ+ Pride flag and talk about it's meaning and history. In this episode, I cover the Transgender Pride Flag. (Unrelated Side Note but I love the colours of this flag! <3) - Who is this Flag for? - While most Pride Flags represent a Sexuality, this flag represents a gender identity. That being Transgender identity, sometimes called Transsexual. While, Transgender is an umbrella term (Meaning it covers all who's gender is not the gender they were assigned at birth, including Nonbinary, Bigender and more!) This flag is most often flown to show representation to those who were assigned Male or Female at birth but identify as the other gender. Sometimes these people may be called "FtM" (Female to Male) or "MtF" (Male to Female) - History - The term "Transgender" was coined by John F. Oliven, a psychiatrist in 1965. However, the iconic Blue, Pink and White flag was not created until 1999 and was designed by Monica Helms and was first flown at a Pride Parade the following year. - Meaning - It is said that the Light Blue colour represents male or masculine genders, the pink female or feminine genders and the stripe of white in the centre is representative of those who are transitioning, as the white stripe is directly between the other stripes of colour. - Conclusion - Spot a typo or mistake? Let me know in the comments! Got any questions or suggestions for the next episode, also to the comments with you. I hope this was informative! <3 Music is Rain!
