Description

I take my headset off and place it on my broken bed. Paint dripping off, wood breaking apart, ripped up blankets. I sigh, as the cold truth hits me. Nobody has taken them off for years. But only now can I see what has happened to Earth in the past three years. In 2043, the famed company Sioe released the SioeX Headset. Using cutting-edge technology, the SioeX Virtual Reality Headset has received a lot of money and hype. But now everyone uses it, as it portrays a much more perfect, exciting reality. People tend to miss everything under their noses with the headset on. The real world is a polluted emptiness, as the VR world, Staru, contains the majority of the human population. There are however, few, that don’t use it. Those few, Revivers, attempt to rebuild earth, hoping the rest will do the same. But now, none of them are in sight. There are no known Revivers left. I take a look besides me, and I see my friend, Sage, beside me. She hasn’t taken off her headset, no one has. Annoyed, I brutally rip them off her head. She gasps, so still she appears seemingly paralyzed. “Ugh, where am I?” she moans. She takes in what just happened. “What was that for?!” she says grimly. “I wanted to see you again..!” I replied. “You could have seen me in-game!” she says angrily. I take a look at her face. Her purple orbs flare, and she looks dirty. Her inky black hair is now a mess, spreading in all directions. Sage looks away in disgust. “I was having the time of my life there, in Staru. But you had to ruin that for me,” she says. I grab her hand and pull her outside, my long chestnut hair flowing behind me. I open the door, so she can see what happened to society as well. She stares at all the debris on the ground, and the gloomy smoky gray atmosphere. “How could this have happened in a span of three years?” she stutters.
