It took her awhile to remember everything and why she wasn’t at home because she didn’t have one anymore. Tears threatened to leak from her eyes and she gave no resistance. They all came pouring down, after realizing that her father was dead, and her mother was abducted by some complete maniacs. Caleb awoke because of her sobs and quickly navigated the source. Kassandra was leaning against a tree, her tears soaking into the ground. Her dusky green eyes said that she was tired of life. “Hey,” Caleb choked back a sob as well. “ We’re going to get your mom back. But for now, we have to stay strong for Oli. Okay?” Kassandra looks at him and nods slowly. “But will we get her back? And how will we survive? and….Mum’s kidnappers are the cult. I saw a symbol on each of their cloaks before they sedated us. A sword over a book.” Caleb scooted closer and wrapped his arms around Kassandra. “We are going to be fine.” waiting for her to meet his eyes. Something was wrong though. Kassandra’s eyes were blank as though she couldn’t hear him. ~~~~~~~~~~☁~~~~~~~~~~ “Kassandra?” Caleb shouts. “Kassandra? Kassandra?” His shouts turn from shouts to desperate pleas but Kassandra gives no sign that she heard him. “Kassandra please snap out of it! Oli needs you! Your Mom needs you! I need you!!!” Caleb struggles to his feet. Pulling Kassandra up with her. She still looked blank as “Kassandra?” Caleb shouts. “Kassandra? Kassandra?” His shouts turn from shouts to desperate pleas but Kassandra gives no sign that she heard him. “Kassandra please snap out of it! Oli needs you! Your Mom needs you! I need you!!!” Caleb struggles to his feet. Pulling Kassandra up with her. She still looked blank as ever. Not saying a word. Caleb realizes that as she turns her head, that her slap mark from yesterday’s tree was glowing the same color as the tree. Caleb leaves Kassandra near the tents and walks over to the tree that had marked Kassandra. As soon as he had done some extreme investigating, He slowly realized that the tree was a Matwinkle tree. Matwinkle trees could make a person who had been touched by it completely oblivious to the world outside their head. Unless you found the cure, The person was stuck forever and slowly was driven mad. He had to find the cure, but he had no clue what it was. Caleb jumped as he heard a rustling sound in the bushes. He quickly ran back to camp, dagger unsheathed. “Whoever you are, You can come out now!” Caleb called. He held his breath as two figures approached him. “If you come any closer, I will throw my dagger. And I have very precise aim.” As they drew closer, he realized that one of them was a boy and the other was a girl. They looked so much like each other, it was hard to tell them apart. Both had mousy brown hair and Bright multicolored eyes that seemed to be scanning him. They were also both dressed in tunics that seemed to be made of leaf fibers. “Relax will you?” The girl rolls her eyes. “We want to help, We heard shouts and thought we would come check it out” “I’m York Toheti and this is my annoying twin sister, Zoey Toheti. We’re both 15.” York offers a hand to shake. Caleb stares at it for what seems like an eternity. Then he sheaths his dagger and accepts York’s hand. “I’m Caleb Smith, 17. This is Kassandra Westivler, she’s 16, and her little brother Olivder is asleep in the blanket over there and he is 10.” “Soo, You wanna catch us up on what happened here?” Zoey points at Kassandra who is still staring blankly at the forest ahead. Caleb can’t look at her without feeling enormously guilty so he leads the twins to an area just out of range. Not that it would matter anyway. He explained everything that happened ever since the Westivlers and himself had left the gates. Zoey gasped in horror when he got to the part about Marvelcous and Melinda. York looked disgusted, Even Caleb heard a catch in his own voice when he was talking. After he was done, The twins sat in silence, processing what they had told them. “I’m so sorry” Zoey whispers, her voice barely heard. “I can’t believe they sedated you.” Caleb stayed silent. “We have to get you guys to Bella and Orson.” She grabs her brother's hand and stands. Offering a hand to Caleb which he accepts and hauls him up, she says “We need to strip down your camp and have you come with us. We have a safe place.
