- - We’re planning on doing a few more paintings uwu Hope ya’ll like it!! :D - - BACKSTORY TIME!! :”D (or, should I say, D”:) Ember was a soldier in the king’s army, but he grew tired of bloodshed and eventually retired to a small farm along with his wife, Willow. They enjoyed swimming in the lake nearby and gardening, and they lived happily for a time. But soon, their fragile peace was shattered when Ember’s brother, Flicker, came with news of war. He was leading a battalion of troops and had nearly gotten killed, and he wanted Ember to help him shoulder the burden of leadership, as he was a fairly new General. Reluctantly, Ember agreed. He wanted Willow to stay behind, but she insisted on accompanying him. His concern was rightly placed, however, for she is killed in battle. Enraged, he slaughters many soldiers, until the battle ends. Once he has left, his rage and grief really set in. He goes through long periods without anything to eat, wishing himself dead. One day, while he is sitting under the tree he and Willow planted, his brother comes to visit him. This triggers another rush of guilt and anger, and he tries to focus it away from himself, so he pretends to blame his brother for what happened, and almost convinces himself that it was Flicker‘s fault. Ember rages at him, and tells him to leave and never return. But before Flicker can leave or protest, a whisper of wind passes between them. In any other instance, they might have discounted it as weather, but Ember was convinced that it was Willow’s spirit, wanting them to stop arguing.
