Instructions

Click a string to play it! Click or hold 'up' and 'down' to adjust the root pitch. Click the instrument name to change it. Click 'play all' to play all eight strings at once. Click 'nodes' to hide the harmonic nodes. Click 'strings' to adjust the string size. Click 'auto strum' to enable more rapid strumming. (May cause lag.)

Description

Harmonics are created by lightly touching a vibrating string to introduce stationary nodes at one half, one third, one quarter, etc., of its length. The resulting frequencies don't always match half tone intervals on the Western scale, which explains why some (e.g. 27.86 at 5 and 33.69 at 7) sound flat or sharp. I was inspired to make this while playing around with Google's awesome Chrome MusicLab: https://musiclab.chromeexperiments.com/ More information about string harmonics is here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Harmonic_series_(music) Graphics and interface are very smooth over here: https://forkphorus.github.io/#382491718
