Description

UPDATE: a dragon can reverse the effects of toxin biting by either using a herbal salve on the area wounded (consisting of at least loakseed, which cures immediately, or any baygrass, which cures in 5 minutes but doesn't allow death) or keeping it submerged in water (which doesn't cure them, but does slow the effects down to only muscle aches and scarring) RipWings Water dragons who are proficient swimmers by nature but prefer to use their fanlike wings or their own invention, special wave boards, to glide across the water. The boards are made of teak wood, found in Dragonfly Bay and overlapped with palm fronds. Dragons with the special power to do so dye the leaves bright colours to show status. Only the queen and royals can have leaves with purples, but any dragon can use other colours. Their scales are bright and tropical, sporting blues, greens, oranges, pinks, yellows and more. A RipWing's eyes and markings show their status: A RipWing with purple eyes are royal or derived from royalty, and a RipWing with green eyes are not (or the royal gene was bred out, through at least 3 generations. A dragon with green eyes can have a royal great-grandparent). RipWings with clear, watery blue eyes, possess the power to manipulate a plant's colour in growth. When these dragons plant a seed, they can use an incantation to change the colour. Most of these dragons are used to make dyed leaves for boards, but not all. If a RipWing with this power has a parent or grandparent with the same power, their eyes are a much deeper blue, like looking at an ocean trench from above. This eye colouring has led most RipWings to believe that the power is hereditary, but this specific eye colour does not correlate with the power. All RipWings with this power have blue eyes, but the deep blue is a gene carried down on the male side. The power is not genetic, only the eye colour. A RipWing obtains these powers if the mother has been in contact with the rare loakseed when she is still carrying the egg. If the contact is made before or after, no powers develop. Only one dragon has ever speculated a link between the plant and the power, a RipWing named Seagull who died hundreds of years ago. His work is documented in the Beachbank Library. The rarity of the loakseed plant means research is hard to conduct, and no proper achievements were made by Seagull before he died accidentally ingesting hemlock. The power was named Dyedra by Queen Baygrass, but no proper documentation has been made of when she lived or when the power was named. It is assumed that the event took place about 1500 years ago and was kept alive by common dragons. Dyedras appear about once every 50 years or so. RipWings are not named after water or water concepts, but after tropical plants, concepts, animals (preferably tropical) or features. Examples include Conch, Baygrass and Seagull. RipWing horns are straight but spiralling, sharp on the ends and curved on the sides. Their two front fangs allow for a venomlike injection into their prey, usually fish. Two fangs can be found in the front of the mouth, about half the size of a RainWings’. These fangs can inject a toxin into the organism if bitten with said fangs. If independently injected, that is, if a healthy organism is injected with the toxin and left, it takes about ten minutes to die. Combined with biting, neck breaking, tearing apart and other techniques designed to kill, an organism is dead within a minute if smaller than a dragon. Unlike RainWing venom, there has been no found antidote to a RipWing bite. RipWings, and a direct RipWing hybrid (either the mother or the father is a pure RipWing) are immune to RipWing toxin. A dragon whom is bit with the toxin will experience the following symptoms, in this order: Chills, shaking, a dark starburst appearing where the toxins were injected, blood turning black, fatigue, fever, paranoia, unconsciousness, coma, death. The process happens in the span of approximately ten minutes. If the bite is made on an open wound, or an area with direct contact with blood, brains or the heart, the death time is halved. RipWing toxins can be compared to RainWing venom and SandWing venom, which a study is taking place on the three types. RipWings have very strong tails, but with graceful fish fins tipping them off. These fins are comparable to koi tails, and help them to swim better. Their tails are still strong, and if used correctly, can greatly harm a target. Small quills lining the sides can puncture scales, which can be combined with toxin biting if done right.
