This is gonna be hard to explain- So in the first bit Masky was hit by his dad, (I know its edgy and bad but he has to have a motive ya know) his dad also wasn't terribly sad that his mum died so Masky was sick of his dad being a huge jerk so he killed him (so much edge i'm sorry) but because of witnesses he also killed his five siblings. In his universe there are gods that protect and keep everything in order on Earth, there are also bad gods that will kind of transform humans into like half gods that are mostly under their control to sabotage the good guys, humans can also be cursed or blessed by gods. (Thats what happened to the other characters in the comic i am making) So after masky killed his family a god had appeared outside so Masky ran out and pleaded for the gods help, the god said he could give him great power for a price, Masky was desperate and hungry for power so he accepted. Every part of his body was fully scarred.(apart from his hands) So when he is just fully red its all blood and cuts, then the god just stopped all the bleeding and sped up the healing so he just kinda instantly turns to scars. Hopefully that helps you understand -3- Also the guy at the VERY start is Masky when he has his mask, after Masky turns to scars the god gave him a mask and clothes
