The goal is simple. Wander through the room and cool things down using the thermostats. Hide behind the column to avoid exposure to the ooze. However, the mechanics are rather complicated. Press a to go left, and d to move right. Press up to go towards the thermostats, and down to head back. Press q to turn down the temperature at the thermostats. Listen heavily to the audio. It will be useful. Always stay on the other side of the room from the monster. To help with your location, if you want, turn on the variables Player Locale and Monstrosity Locale. They will be hidden by default. When needed, press r to use the axe. After that, stick around and watch the cutscene.
