Name: Copper Gender: Male Sexuality: Pan Info: A well respected knight, Copper remains secretive about his past. Even he isn't aware of his own backstory, though he knows the consequences that will occur if he shows anyone what's beneath the blindfold. His eyes remain hidden, shielded by a mask that many others think is just for show. A Rudolph of sorts, he conceals his secret just successfully enough to fit in with the others. Backstory: The wolf pup blinked open his eyes just enough to allow his parents to see the vibrant flashes of gold radiating from within them. "He... can't stay," declared his mother, Echo, looking away from the pup that had been in her arms only a few minutes before. "You know what will happen if he stays." "Yes, we should have-" began the father, Lance, stopping himself and shaking his head. "we should have expected this. It's a miracle it didn't happen sooner," he finished, using his snout to scoot the pup away from its siblings. Neither of them said the reason for their grief out loud, but both of them knew. Gold eyes. That was a warning. The last pup in their family to be born with gold eyes was Echo's sister, Shadow. And, of course, everyone knew that Shadow had wrecked so much havoc and caused so much destruction and hatred that she had been banished, not only from her town, but from the entire kingdom. Rumors were that the pup hadn't survived for more than a week on her own, though nobody quite knew for sure because nobody was allowed to make contact with her thereafter. Even worse, the fact that Echo had a golden eyed relative so closely in her lineage increased the risk that any other pups born into the family would have golden eyes as well. Everybody in the kingdom knew this. If Lance and Echo were to suddenly bring out a pup and cover it's eyes, everybody in the kingdom would be aware of what was underneath. Yes, the parents both knew that even if they themselves weren't afraid to keep the pup with them, the townsfolk would be so petrified, what with their superstitious beliefs, that they might even... ...Well, it was obvious that the pup couldn't stay. "Okay," breathed Echo, weighing her options. "We can't keep him here with us, but then- where does he go?" "We could send him to the Southern Kingdom. What's it called again? Right, Varg. Well, I'll let you in on something. You see, I notice that there's a traveling merchant that makes that trip every day. He drops by this place for a rest every sunrise; he doesn't know we live here, after all. So if we were able to somehow slip the pup into his bag, he'd never know... until of course he had already arrived at Varg. I think the plan would work, so long as we-" "You're forgetting that they're just as afraid of gold eyes there as they are here," interrupted the Echo, looking away. "Yes, but there's something you're not thinking about. They don't have to know about us. And our history." Replied Lance "That's right! If we cover those eyes..." she tore off a piece of her mushroom-red cape, draping it around the small pup's head to cover it's gilded eyes. "...They'll think he's blind. Nobody will suspect a thing," nodded Lance with satisfaction. "Gold eyes are extremely rare, after all. If you'll recall, even we were able to have three litters of pups before getting one with that did have that eye color, and we have a much higher risk." "So it's settled then," Echo responded, "We take him to Varg." Lance nodded, trying hard to remain calm and put-together. "He needs a name." "But how can we name-" began Echo, but Lance cut her off. "How about Copper?" Lance suggested. "Copper for the one with the golden eyes," breathed Echo "No, Copper for the one with the russet blindfold. And for the flame pattern inscribed in his fur. Nobody will have to know about the... other side of his name." "Well I guess that's it, then. Copper. Copper the wolf pup from Varg." "Copper the blind wolf pup from Varg." Added Lance, licking Echo's face and heading over to the other pups. "Goodbye, my precious," Whispered Echo, using her foreclaws to engrave the name onto the blindfold, before placing the pup ever so gently into the empty abyss of the merchant's bag headed for Varg.
