If you recolor, AND add some stuff (like horns or erase the hair), then say "the original art is by rainfirefierro and I recolored and added some stuff", that's cool! Art can be tough sometimes, and finding your style is a journey! ( @firestarstarclan112 's project is a good example of this!)
