Instructions

Hi- this is a bit of a sappy story so I hope you don't find it too stupid. I know there are going to be plenty of amazing memories in the future as well, but I just wanted to get my feelings out. It's gonna be kinda silly, but oh well. The 2010's are over. We can look back at 2016 like someone from 2000 would look at 1996. The 2010's are stagnant. Every memory within them is now in a glass case on the wall, frozen. You might have had your first day of school in the 2010's, and made your first friend, lost your first tooth... and just yesterday, you made your last 2010's memory. Ever. All of that going to school, and then to bed, and waking up again? Almost 4 THOUSAND days? You learned probably all you know. And a few hours ago was your final memory of the decade. Whether it was good or bad, it was the 2010's. It's 2020 right now. When you back to school (if you do) you'll have to end the date with a 20. For New Years, me and some friends had a last hurrah. We took out our Wii and put in Wii Party, a game from 2010. We started it in the decade it was made in. We ended it in the 2020's. We played a game of Wii Party that crossed two decades. Maybe that was the last time someone would ever play it that decade, as silly as that sounds. Then we played some New Super Mario Bros Wii and messed around. After, we went to the Wii News channel, and the song you're hearing played. An error message popped up and told us it couldn't connect. The same thing happened with the Wii Shop Channel. Both are discontinued. The Wii came out in the 2000's. This is its THIRD decade. We all were having fun, but it was bittersweet. Maybe we'd play later, but we knew what had happened. The culmination of every memory of the 2010's had been locked in a glass case. Our final game of Wii Party was frozen in the 2010's. We fell asleep late at night. I pretended we were floating 200 feet above the ground. The windows were black. We were in the living room. If you're 14, by the end of the 2020's, you will be 24. 24. Everything is changing so fast. Our world, and also our lives. A lot of us are still kids, and I'm not trying to seem overdramatic or mopey, but the change felt really evident for me. Suddenly, things were 10 times less simple. This had been building up but the last night of 2019 caught me by surprise. I'm glad I got in one final night of making silly miis and playing ridiculous minigames. The 2010's aren't gone. They're still there, but we're the ones past them. I wonder what our futures will bring. I have hope it will be bright, and I will do my best to make it so. But I can't ignore that feeling, either. 200 feet above the ground in the living room, listening to this song...
