Instructions

Spam the flag. ------------------------------------------------------------------------- Welcome to Interactive Scrabble Variant Board, where you can compete against your friends to create the longest words or cooperate to fill up as much of the grid as possible! ------------------------------------------------------------------------Make sure to read down below! Otherwise nothing will make sense. ------------------------------------------------------------------------- HOW TO USE: - Enter the stuff it tells you to. Time control is there in case you want to make sure no one takes too long on their move. The grid size number represents how many squares wide the grid is. - Don't worry about the save code if it's your first time. That's for if you have a saved game in progress that you'd like to continue. - Once you've customized your settings, you can navigate the board using the arrow keys (or clicking a square with the mouse). Switch players using the 1, 2, 3, and 4 keys for each respective person playing. - When your cursor (the flashing outlined square) is hovering over a tile, press a letter key to place that letter on the tile. The letter will change color to match whichever player is currently selected. - You can erase a tile by pressing space while hovering over it. You can black out a tile by pressing 0. - Use the buttons on the right to stop, start, and reset the timer. - If you want to save a game in progress, click the save button to receive a code. - When your game is finished, click the "end game" button. - During a game, use the 8 and 9 keys to toggle the flashing/twinkle effect of the tiles. 8 for on, 9 for off. - If you don't want to sit through the intro, just press the space bar. RULES: - This is a somewhat open-ended project and you can make up your own rules. By default, however, I usually play in one of these two ways: a) Cooperative. Players take turns making words (the first must include the randomized center square), trying to fill up as much of the grid as possible. Normal Scrabble rules apply: you can only play tiles along one straight line on each turn, all words must read either left-to-right or top-to-bottom, connected tiles in any direction except diagonally must always form an accepted word. NOTE: THIS PROJECT DOES NOT RECOGNIZE WHETHER A WORD IS IN THE DICTIONARY OR NOT. THAT IS THE PLAYERS' RESPONSIBILITY. When no more words can be played, click the "end game" button to see how much you were able to fill up! b) Competitive. Players once again take turns, but this time it is a competition to see who can play the most letters. As usual, follow Scrabble rules and play until no more words can be found, then click "end game" and see who placed the most tiles! - The timer is a completely optional addition. You can use it however you'd like-- maybe you lose your turn if it goes off before you've made your move? Maybe you're out of the game if you run out of time? Once again, it's meant to be open-ended. ------------------------------------------------------------------------- I hope you enjoy this project! A fair bit of work went into it (about 1,300 blocks), so make sure to let me know in the comments if there are any bugs or anything like that. Thanks for playing! ------------------------------------------------------------------------- Tags: #interactive #scrabble #variant #v1.0 #word #game #4 #player #four #players #multiplayer #strategy #letters #grid #save #code #cooperative #competitive #GuacamoleGames

Description

Scrabble name, concept, and rules belong to Hasbro. All graphics and coding are original. Timer logo based off the one on Chess.com. Thanks to my sister (@jbear911) for helping me test it! If you enjoyed this project, check out my old account, @cs1714354. There are a few things worth seeing in there. However, keep in mind that everything shared by that account was begun before December 2019. (I have a couple of unfinished projects under that name that I will possibly complete at some point in the future.) Possible Future Changes: - Music? - Fifth player compatibility? - Bonus score spaces? Changelog: - 12/8/19 (v1.0) Initial release - 12/9/19 (v1.1) Added option to move cursor by clicking mouse - 12/9/19 (v1.2) Increased delay on cursor tick to prevent skipping - 12/9/19 (v1.3) Changed tiles to appear all at once rather than spiraling - 12/10/19 (v1.4) Removed twinkle as it caused bugs - 12/10/19 (v1.5) Increased tile size when hovering with mouse - 1/3/2020 (v1.6) Made intro skippable - 1/19/2020 (v1.7) Fixed bug with backgrounds - 1/25/2020 (v1.8) Somewhat de-laggified the intro - 1/27/2020 (v1.9) Did away with some intro animation altogether because it would NOT STOP LAGGING
