Instructions

Ok. So, there's a law called COPPA, which basically says you can't collect weird information on kids. This sounds good, right? There's NO WAY this can go wrong, right? WRONG. YouTube, despite trying there best to make sure anyone on their app is 13+, is still a kids app. All those annoying ads that pop up when you watch a video? Those are called 'Targeted ads', and they- surprise, surprise!- take information from the viewer to give them ads that they might find interesting. Since YouTube has a LOT of kids on it, the writers of COPPA basically said that kids content won't have any ads on it. PLUS, they'll be fining them 42,000 dollars PER KID FRIENDLY VIDEO. Now, you might be going "Oh, this doesn't affect me! I don't watch kid content!". It's not that simple. It never is. You see, there is a LOT of gray area on YouTube when it comes to kids content. Y'know how Jake/Logan Paul are obviously directed to kids? Some of their videos aren't exactly 'kid friendly'. HOWEVER, since kids watch them, they WILL be affected. This becomes even more of a problem when looking at other, more popular, LESS KID-DIRECTED channels. Something that makes kid content kid content according to YouTube is if it has animated characters. You know Sleepykinq, the king of edge? Yup, he's affected. How about Kittydog, the channel with a cute character, but every now and then makes not kid friendly jokes or, who am I kidding, makes not kid friendly jokes ALL THE TIME? Yup, she's affected. How about all your favorite story time animators like TheOdd1sOut or Jaiden Animations. Their channels are gone, reduced to atoms. Heck, this might be the thing that finally sinks PEWDIEPIE since he plays Minecraft and calls his fans the 9-year-olds. Oh yeah, did I mention most gaming channels will probably be affected as well, since kids like video games? Yeah. To make matters worse, a LOT of these people need their videos to make money so that they can LIVE. A LOT OF THESE PEOPLE MAKE THEIR LIVING OFF OF YOUTUBE. And do you wanna know how much of their money comes of target ads? 80 TO 90 PERCENT. This is bad. To make matters even worse, SOME OF THE PEOPLE WHO WROTE THESE LAWS DON'T EVEN HAVE PHONES. THEY DON'T EVEN WATCH YOUTUBE. THEY DON'T KNOW JUST HOW MUCH GRAY AREA THERE IS. This law will affect ALL of YouTube, and it starts next year. The only thing we can do is go up to the people who wrote COPPA, which there is a way to do, and tell them just how ridiculous this new law is and how to fix it. https://www.federalregister.gov/documents/2019/07/25/2019-15754/request-for-public-comment-on-the-federal-trade-commissions-implementation-of-the-childrens-online should let you give them feed back. NO RAGE COMMENTS. Be as serious as you can get, cause we're dealing with legal stuff. This is real. We need to help, because only we can.

I want to start a YouTube channel in the future. If this law passes, that dream will be no more. And I'm sure some of you want to start a YouTube channel in the future. If you wanna keep that dream alive, we HAVE to do something.
