Instructions

space/click for random Emara fan art - I've been trying to practice variations in facial structure (in addition to facial expressions) so I figured I might as well blab about it for a while haha!

Description

learning is such a battle lol, but you know, even if it's not always fun to learn, it is fun to see yourself improve by little bits! if it seems like a lot of your characters look too similar to each other, try thinking of their designs in parts first instead of drawing their faces and bodies according to an automatic / muscle memory type. Here's some areas you can vary features in to make them look different -- I learned partially by studying Emara, but you can learn from your favorite show / comic / movie (as long as it's one where characters look distinct from one another!) -Eyes! *eye shape *eyeball size * iris size * eye angle (if the inner corner of eye is higher, lower, or level with the outer corner of eye) -Nose! *nose shape (angle, profile, stuff like that)*nose size -Mouth! *mouth size *mouth shape (look up references, could be helpful) -Jaw! *jaw size *jaw angle -Cheek! *cheek bone prominence/placement *cheek fat -Hair! *hair type (curly, wavy, frizzy, straight?) *hair length+style More generally -- *Body type (height, weight distribution, musculature, proportions) *shapes! (certain shapes are identified with certain types of characters - like triangles or spikes, circles / round things, squares, n such. you can alter features to accentuate the silhouette of a character especially to generate a certain impression of them!) anywayyyy see if you can find some of that, at least in the faces, of the Emara characters I drew! bye
