Her feet kept pounding the ground as she ran. She swallowed and fingered the rifle that was within her hands. Then, the girl heard the familiar sound of the creature, the terrible, wretched sound it made. It sounded like it was a mix of a chainsaw and a faucet running. The girl kept running, determined to not get caught. The creature was after her, chasing her, viciously tearing anything down to get her. 'What would I do to get Lily back. She would be able to kill these easily,' The girl thought as she weaved through junk that was in her way. She felt fear pulse through her as she heard the creature knock away the junk with ease. 'Faster,' She told herself, 'FASTER!' If she could get to the town in time, maybe there would be a chance. A chance to- A cold talon suddenly slammed down on her. The girl screamed as she felt the creature tear through her clothes and into her flesh. She fell to the ground, shivering, before she desperately tried to crawl away, still holding the rifle with one hand. The creature let out another chilling scream, reaching towards her again. 'This is it,' The girl thought in despair, 'I have to kill it.' The girl grabbed her rifle with her other hand, then twisted her body, aiming it at the creature. She squeezed her eyes shut, pulling the trigger. Bang. The girl opened her eyes, seeing the creature as it stayed where it was, trembling. She saw the hole through its chest, before it collapsed into a heap. Slowly, the girl made it to her feet, feeling herself tremble as well. 'I couldn't make it to town,' She thought, swallowing and gripping her rifle tighter. She gazed at the creature, watching it dwindle into dust. The dead eyes of the creature stared up at her, showing no emotions. The girl fought back a sob building up in her throat. She knelt down, shutting the eyes of the dead. Why did the virus had to infect humans? Creatures like these couldn't be killed easily. And when they were, they left scars. Mentally. She was already missing Lily now.
