Aphid was raised during the reign of Mantis. When Aphid was 10 years old, Phasmid became angry at the way Mantis treated the HiveWings, LeafWings, and SilkWings. Phasmid decided to start a protest, which sadly ended with over ten SilkWings and HiveWings being dead, including Phasmid. Since Aphid was much closer to her mother than her father, and she was devastated at her mother’s death. Aphid became unstable- she lashed out at her close friends and once thought she should run away from the hives altogether. Aphid would separate herself from the people she loved. When her father caught a deadly sickness, as well as two of her older brothers, she became almost insane. Her father died and her brothers were moved to another hive. She decided she would leave the hives altogether. Then, when Aphid was about to leave the hive, a HiveWing ran into their hive and screamed, “Queen Mantis is dead! Queen Mantis is dead!” Aphid drops everything and runs to see the new queen- Queen Cicada. Aphid becomes so overjoyed that her mother was finally avenged. Aphid decides to become Cicada’s guard and feels like she will do anything for the queen, even if she would be able to defend herself with the animus magic. Aphid would do anything- even give her life- for her current queen or her daughter. Aphid still misses her mother dearly, and is still very unstable. She is paranoid that someone will kill someone she is fond with. She will do anything to avenge them.
