Diatoms are types of algae. They're unicellular organisms and have unique shapes and cell walls, which makes them very cool looking! I learned that because they're so beautiful, people make art with them, under a microscope-- this was especially popular during the Victorian era. That inspired me to make a diatom art creator for the Micro SDS.
