So Errie Is a robot, so he can't really have emotions. He was programmed to make people happy, though, so all his cute faces are just imitations of the feelings that he can never experience. He always tries to understand them, to be able to feel them, but he never can. Errie yearns to become a normal creature, so he can finally be happy for once.
