- click and drag to place the sprig of leaves on the paper. - click the paper to expose the cyanotype paper to sunlight! - when it is done exposing, remove the sprig. - after your print is rinsed, it is done! :)
a cyanotype is an early type of photography, where a special mixture of chemicals is applied to paper (or other materials) to make it sensitive to light. the chemicals are water-soluble, so that means they can be washed away with water. when the special paper is exposed to sunlight (UV light), the the chemical mixture undergoes a chemical change, making it permanent. when you rinse the exposed paper, the chemicals are washed away from the parts of the paper that were covered, while the parts that were exposed to the sunlight turn a deep blue. very pretty! it is also the same process that used to be used to make architectural blueprints ! :) #cyanotypes #sunprint #sun #print #science #simulator
