Description

Report: -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- It is the heaviest naturally occurring element. It was the first radioactive element to be discovered. It is Uranium. Uranium is an element on the periodic table of the elements that has basic facts, physical and chemical properties, and common uses. Uranium’s symbol is U, and its atomic number is 92. It was discovered in 1789 by Martin Heinrich Klaproth, and can be found mainly in the countries of Canada, Zaire, the U.S.A., and the Czech Republic. Uranium’s atomic weight is 238.02891. Uranium also has physical and chemical properties. It has a metallic grey or silvery-white color, with a boiling point of 3900 degrees Celsius (7101 degrees Fahrenheit), and a melting point of 1132 degrees Celsius (2070 degrees Fahrenheit). It has the ability to fission, a chemical reaction harnessed in some bombs, as well as the ability to combine with oxygen to make uranium oxide (UO2). Uranium also has plenty of uses, most of which are military related. These include nuclear bombs, nuclear missiles, nuclear torpedoes,(all of those use U-135 to fission) armor plating on tanks, (Depleted uranium is quite strong) and ballast wings on some large aircraft (again, depleted uranium is strong, and also heavy). Some non-military uses are nuclear power and nuclear fuel (uranium fissions, and therefore releases energy), as well as nuclear vehicles (use nuclear power to run). In conclusion, uranium is an extremely useful element in the making of military weapons, and will most likely be harnessed in a more powerful way in the future. The big question is: what will the future hold for the highly useful element uranium? -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Enjoy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
