His breeders bred show dogs. They usually kept the best puppies out of the litter and gave away the rest to really good friends or people. They were afraid that no one would really want him. While giving away puppies to their really good friends (and trust worthy people), an army veteran stops by. He sees Buddy and wants him, despite his leg. So the breeders happily gave Buddy to him. And the veteran gave Buddy his name. No, the veteran didn't adopt Buddy because he's missing a leg, too. He just thought that it didn't really matter if Buddy was missing a leg or not. As a puppy, Buddy was energetic, curious, playful, and, most importantly, happy. The veteran's niece made Buddy the hat and bought him the coat he still wears. She thought something was missing, and got him the ribbons to match. What Buddy loved the most were nature walks. The veteran, tired of city life, bought a cabin and a ranch and decided to live there. Every morning and every evening the two would walk out and enjoy themselves. What Buddy liked about nature walks? The fresh air, the new smells, the animals, the terrain... everything. All that would change quickly, however. THE ACCIDENT Buddy was about two when "the accident" happened. It was hard to say what happened exactly, since Buddy and his owner were the only ones there when it happened. But it's safe to assume this: Buddy and his owner, the veteran, went on their usual morning walk. Buddy wanted to take a new path, towards the mountains and pines. Buddy and the veteran walk towards there. They forget to take into account that there were terrible storms the night before. They are just eager to take their walk after being inside for so long. While on the new path, a new smell excites Buddy. He drags his owner towards it. At the same time, a tree falls. The tree lands on the two, seriously injuring the veteran and paralyzing the dog. It takes almost an hour for help to arrive (a fellow hiker, who finds them and calls 911). POST ACCIDENT The veteran goes to the hospital with broken arms. It takes a while for him to recover. Buddy's two legs are paralyzed. They will be like that for the rest of his life. Now he requires a wheelchair. But the accident has affected Buddy in another way. He's left with nothing but fear, shame, and guilt. It was his stupid decision that left his owner in pain. The wilderness, his friend, betrayed him after he left in search of something new. As a result, Buddy became afraid of everything. Even after his owner recovered, he didn't want to do anything new. He didn't even want to see the veteran's family or go on walks. He didn't forgive himself for what he "did", became paranoid (the tree falling down was unexpected, and he now believes that something unexpected will happen that will leave his owner in pain again) and liked staying in the dark (the dark is scary, but in it he can't see his owner or anything "awful" that might get him). Eventually, his owner gets fed up with this and drags Buddy outside. They take a walk using the same path they took before the accident. Buddy realizes this, but the veteran forces him to go on. He's not mean or anything, he has good intentions. The path is safer now, and when Buddy realizes this he'll start his recovery. Maybe in a year, he'll be back to his old self. However, as the two near the trees, Buddy panics. He pulls away from his owner. The veteran's arms/hands are still weak, and he successfully pulls away. The veteran is not able to keep up as Buddy runs farther and farther away... Actually that's all I have for now. I have this whole story where he finds this town and this boy who's also in a wheelchair. (continued below)

Description

The boy doesn't want Buddy because the dog's just a reminder that he's "just the boy in the wheelchair", but his brother and father (the other two that live with the boy) want the dog and rename him "Alpine McKinley" because of the little mountains on his vest. They can't return him since Buddy/Alpine only has a ribbon in place of a collar. The dog is only drawn to the boy at first for some odd reason, and the boy doesn't like it one bit. But soon, Buddy/Alpine and the boy develop a close bond. After 2.5 years, the boy posts a picture of Buddy/Alpine online. While his niece (the same one that made the hat) shows him how to use social media, the veteran sees Buddy for the first time in quite a while and uses the location to find him. Now the dog needs to decide if he'll leave with his old friend or stay with his new friends. (Yep... that's a lot) I want to develop the story even more, so I hope I win him. :-) +++++ Design: @MistCat Art: me Program: Krita Music: Alpine's theme song + other songs that I thought would fit him really well: "God Only Knows" (For King & Country), "Should've Been Me" (Citizen Way), "Hard Love" and "Testify" (NeedtoBreathe), and "I just need U" (also TobyMac) I explain them in detail at my website. And yes, they're all Christian songs (it's all I listen to)
