Instructions

Frisk felt nervous and faint by the time they got to Sans's house. Halfway up the steps, her legs gave out and she nearly hit the ground. Catching herself on the rail guard, she waved a hovering Asriel off. "No, I'm fine. I can get up. It's just the dreams. They... they take a lot out of me", she said breathlessly. "Frisk, you nearly broke your neck. Let me help". Ignoring her feeble protest, he wrapped his arm around her waist and helped her walk up the last few steps. In the dim light, he can see how pale her face was. Very different from the rosy tint her cheeks always seemed to be. Looking away from her face, he turned and knocked on the wooden door that was now in front of them. The door cracked open the slightest bit and a head poked out. "Kid? Do you realize what time..... Oh, Come put her on the couch" , he said gravely when he saw what state Frisk was in. Asriel huffed and mumbled something under his breath at he walked inside San's living room, holding Frisk close to him. When Frisk eased herself onto the blue couch, Ariel turned to Sans, "She's still having nightmares, and it's getting worse. What do you know about stopping them?", Asriel demanded, knowing Sans knew a lot more about these things than him. Frisk shakily sat up, causing Sans to quickly teleport by the couch his hands ready to catch her shall she fall. "Careful kid, don't stress yourself", he mumbled to her. When he was sure she wouldn't fall onto the floor, he turned and answered Asriel. Hesitating, he said "I've... talked to Gaster and he had some interesting theories...." Motioning to Frisk, he continued "She's quite literally reliving her past through nightmares. Gaster suggested finding a way to... vent her memories away from herself." Frisk coughed to get everyone's attention. "Do I get a say-so on what to do?", she asked with authority. Not waiting for an answer, she turned the Sans and asked, "What did he mean by 'venting' my memories?" Asriel looked expectantly at Sans, waiting for an answer. To be honest, he was curious of the answer himself. Sans shrugged and rub the back of his neck. "Honestly kiddo, I have no clue what he meant, but I have a few ideas of my own about what they mean..." Glancing at Frisk's stern face, he continued. "Have you ever wondered why only the Weed and I can remember past timelines? What causes us to remember?" Asriel, taken aback by Sans' idea. "First of all, Bonehead, you have a point there. Second, don't ever call me 'Weed' again.", he advised sternly. Frisk startled everyone by practically jumping off the couch and shouting, "It's Determination; the will to remember! But no one knows there even is anything to remember...", She said, trailing off thoughtfully. Before anyone could tell her to sit back down she started pacing, a bounce in her step. Sans gave her a quiet round of applause. "Now you see where I'm going with this. What if we gave them a reason to want to remember?" Asriel froze and looked at Sans with a mixture of disgust and spite on his face. Shaking his head, he hissed quietly so Frisk wouldn't hear, "You want everyone to remember everything? You and I both know the chances of anyone only remembering bits and pieces. We remember everything. The good and the bad. What's gonna stop them from seeing her as a true monster?" Sans cursed quietly to himself, defeated. Despite the hours of thought put into the idea, the Weed still manages to find every fault in his plan. Just then, Frisk walked in between the two of them and pushed them apart. Her eyebrows furrowed and she asked, "Y'all look like you're about to rip each other's throats out. What were you arguing about?" Asriel backed up, noticing that he was indeed poised like he was about to hit Sans. Obviously frustrated, Sans answered, "Nothing much except that Vegetoid over here found a flaw in our idea. Why don't you ask him?" Asriel growled at the skeleton. "I'm not going to tell her, do it yourself.", he said coolly, staring the skeleton down. Sans grumbled to himself and muttered, "Why don't you take your own advice." Sans turned around and stormed out the door, slamming it so hard that the pet rock in the corner of the room falls off the table. He has a lot to think about...

Description

DESCRIPTION OF BOOK Frisk has reset the timeline again, but not before going on a Genocide run. Now that a new timeline has started, Frisk's actions come back to haunt her unmercifully every night. Nightmares have become a regular nightly companion and nothing she can do gets rid of the ghost of her past. Years after reseting, Frisk finds she can trigger a response in a monster's mind so that they remember previous timelines. A little later, she finds that after a monster learns of her actions, if they truly forgive her, it's a huge burden lifted off of her shoulders. Not just emotional burdens, but seemingly physical and psychological too. Sans and Asriel, despite the grudge they hold for one another, decide help Frisk in any way possible. Sans has an uncanny ability to "sniff" out people with the best chance of forgiving Frisk and Asriel has the strange ability to trigger "flashbacks" of the previous timeline. They are also still in the underground, but everyone has access to the ruins. CHARACTER CREDIT TO TOBY FOX
