Deities: The Dinka people believe in one, all knowing god, Nhialic. They are both feminine and masculine, and are said to be responsible for the creation of the world. There are also smaller beings, divinities. They are said to be manifestations of the natural world. Spirits are common, and are said to be the souls of the dead. They can be both good and evil. ----- Worship: Celebrations are in autumn, as the tribe is all together. Sacrifices of cattle, large gatherings. More generally, there are sacrifices, offerings, prayers, praises, music and dance for the gods and divinities. You can find temples, shrines, altars, and so on for private worship. Some natural things such as river and trees are thought to be manifestations of the divine, and are worshiped. Dinka also believe life is the God’s greatest gift, and should be cherished and respected.
