So a few days ago, Sega just released their latest Sonic spinoff racing game, Team Sonic Racing. Now this isn't the first racing game in the Sonic series, and judging by how great this game is, it certainly won't be the last. Now there are tons of racing games out there, and there's also a ton of Sonic racing games; what makes this game so special? Well what makes this game unique is its emphasis on teamwork, hence the name Team Sonic Racing. You have to help out your fellow teammates if you want to win. You can't just focus on your position, because that could hurt your chances of winning. For example, you could get first place, but if your other teammates are in say seventh or eighth place, that could effect your overall score as a team, affecting your chances of winning gold. So how do you help out your team? This can be done through means of using your trail to help slingshot your teammate behind you, drive past a teammate that crashed or slowed down to help them recover, or transferring items to a teammate that might need it. The more your team works together, the more your team gauge fills up. When it's full, your team can unleash a Team Ultimate, giving you temporary incredible speed, handling, and invincibility. As of most Sonic games that uses teamwork, there are three different types of racers. Speed, of course, are the fastest, technique has better handling and can attract rings, and power has better defense and can move on different terrain. The game also looks and sounds incredible! The graphics are beautiful and the music is fantastic; being done by the likes of Crush 40, Hyper Potions, and even Tee Lopes returning from Sonic Mania, making this soundtrack better than it needed to. Being a racing game, you can also customize your vehicles with parts that you unlock via story or mods. You can customize a vehicle from it's parts, to it's paint job, even right down to the car's horn. In conclusion, Team Sonic Racing is a great game. It breathes new life to racing genre by adding a surprising but welcome twist to the classic formula we know and love. I'd definitely recommend it to Sonic fans and racing fans alike.
