I was about to close my eyes, and I could feel myself drifting into slumber, but I was jolted awake by a loud clap of thunder. I never understood whether it was because of my condition, or if it was purely because I was such a worrisome girl, but the thought of thunderstorms -- more specifically, sleeping during one -- scared me stiff. For a long time, I'd been used to this sort of predicament, having no choice but to sleep during a storm, but this was different. His presence embarrassed me. I whimpered and felt myself tremble a bit, but he kept his arms wrapped securely around me, which helped me calm down a bit. He must've noticed me shivering, because he moved all the closer to me and whispered something. "I didn't expect this to happen, but it'll hopefully be okay tomorrow morning. Don't be scared, Pearl. The flooding can't possibly be that bad, if there is any." I nodded a little and sighed. 'He's right. It'll be okay,' I thought, closing my eyes and trying to sleep again. However, he must've thought I'd fallen asleep. Little did he know, I had felt the gentle touch of his kiss on my cheek."
