Eaglestar's Dream Chapter 2: Exploration ~Five moons later~ The little tabby scurried across the sandy terrain of the camp, in hot pursuit of a dark brown kit. They dodged caves with sleeping cats in them, boulders with cats perched on them, and clusters of cats discussing boring adult stuff. "Gotcha!" The tabby shekit lunged, pinning the brown tom. "You're an awfully slow rabbit!" she taunted. "Well if I was fast, I wouldn't be able to feed the clan," the tom replied, grinning. Typical Otterkit. Always thinking of some witty excuse as to why he lost. The tabby kit leapt off the larger kit. Otterkit may've been a moon older then her, but he certainly wasn't stronger than her! "Hey Icekit, come and join us!" the tabby shekit called. "Nah, I'm good, Eaglekit," a silvery tabby kit called back from atop the rock she was reclining on. "Typical," Eaglekit huffed. "She never wants to play." "Well you still have me," Otterkit mewed. "Yeah..." Eaglekit mumbled. "Ok, this time, I'm the rabbit, try to catch me!" She flipped around and took off at lightning speed. Otterkit looked up at the rocks deviously, scurried up one, and leapt from boulder to boulder in pursuit of the smaller shekit. He jumped down, cutting her off at a turn, and placed a paw gently yet firmly on her, smushing her face into the sandy dirt. "Geez what are you, a bird?" she grumbled. "Says the cat who has Eagle- in her name," he snarked back, smiling devilishly. "Whatever, just get off of me," Eaglekit snapped. He stepped off her. "Ah, kits," a familiar voice behind them called. "Ferretstar?" Eaglekit mewed, turning around. A large ginger tom with black paws and green eyes padded towards them. His black-tipped tail twitched happily. "Guess what?" he mewed, grinning. His sharp fangs didn't seem so menacing when you knew that your leader was the most lovable goofball in the entire clan. "What?" Otterkit and Eaglekit chorused. They glanced at each other awkwardly. "I'm going to take you three on a tour of Canyonclan territory!" he exclaimed. "AWESOME!" Otterkit and Eaglekit both shouted, then glanced at each other again. "Wait, three of us?" Eaglekit asked. "Oh please, Icekit doesn't want to come." "Who says I dont?" Icekit hopped down from her boulder. "She did," Otterkit replied, grinning. "Just because I lay on a rock all day doesn't mean I'm lazy," she growled. "I kinda think it does," Eaglekit grumbled dryly. "I just think your games are pointless and waste valuable energy," Icekit replied, her tail beginning to lash. "I spend most of my time on the rocks thinking about what I'm going to do as a Warrior." "Well thats easy, Warrior stuff," Eaglekit huffed. "There's a lot more to being a Warrior then doing "Warrior stuff"," Ferretstar interrupted. "You need to decide lots of things. Are you going to have a mate? Are you going to have kits? Are you going to be a Medicine Cat? Are you going to be a true Warrior, one who is always there for their clan, or are you going to be a Warrior that just does what they're told and doesn't give a hoot about what they accomplish with their life?" For once, all three kits were silent. At last, Eaglekit spoke up. "Romance is stupid, so a definite no on a mate or kits, and honestly, I'm just going to go with the flow. If I get to be leader, cool. If I get stuck as a normal Warrior all my life, cool. As long as I get to kick prey's butt, I'm good!" She pumped her paw in the air triumphantly. Otterkit reared onto his hind legs, extended his front limbs and clapped. "BRAVO, ENCORE ENCORE!" he cheered. Eaglekit dipped her head to the side and leaned, giving a humble curtsy. "Thank you, thank you very much," she mewed. Icekit rolled her eyes. Ferretstar sighed. "I thought you were ready for a tour, but maybe only Icekit is.." Ferretstar mumbled, glancing at them slyly. "Hey!" Eaglekit hissed. "That's not fair! Just because we dont agree with you doesn't mean we aren't worthy to be treated like everyone else!" "Eaglekit," Otterkit whispered into her ear, "He was trying to psyche you out." "Oh." Eaglekit replied stupidly. Ferretstar jerked his head towards the woodland area. While it was mostly just large bushes, there were a few trees in that direction. "Come on," he called. The three kits rushed after him. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- "And this is the Death Cliff." They emerged from the brush of the woodlands to a sudden cliff sticking out over a loooong drop to a river. The river had cut a deep groove in the land, and the other side of the river was just as tall as this side. The three kits looked in awe at the crystal river gleaming its way through the multi-colored stone. Ferretstar padded behind them and sat down, curling his tail around his paws. "Many cats have died falling from here, which is where it gets its name," Ferretstar stated. "But if you were to fall now, thanks to that thunderstorm we had a couple days ago, you'd hit the water and of course be hurt, but not as hurt as you could be. We call the river the River of Life, not only because it could save a person this way, but because it is necessary for us to live. Usually here it's just a little stream, but you've seen how big it is all year long near camp." "What's on the other side of the canyon?" Eaglekit mewed curiously. "Coyote territory," Ferretstar growled with disgust. "You must never go to their side. EVER. Now, we should get out of here. I can smell a coyote patrol coming." "Coyotes patrol?" Eaglekit asked with a bit of scorn in her voice. "They're savages and have no honor or code to live by, but yes, like us, they patrol their territory," Ferretstar admitted. He led the way back into the trees. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- As the setting sun's rays casted orange light on the camp, Eaglekit, Otterkit, and Icekit were all sitting together, enjoying a rabbit. "I can't wait to be an apprentice," Eaglekit admitted. "It's going to be so exciting!" Otterkit exclaimed happily. "I can't believe in a moon we'll be made apprentices!" "Yeah, but have you thought of how much will change?" Icekit asked dryly from where she was lying. Her front limbs were crossed and her icy blue eyes had a bit of sadness in them. "How much?" Eaglekit questioned suspiciously. "You won't get to play games anymore. You'll have to actually work. Our days of being carefree will be over." Icekit replied. "Well, what kind of stuff do we have to do?" Eaglekit mewed. Icekit shrugged. "I've tried to pick up as much info as I can," she stated, "but it's hard when we dont have any apprentices to study..." "You know, when I become leader, you're going to make a great deputy," Eaglekit replied, grinning. "Hey, what about me?" Otterkit huffed. "I doubt you'll even be alive then," Icekit smirked. "Yeah!" Eaglekit exclaimed, "You're as slow as a rabbit and-wait, was that an insult to me too!?" "Maybe, maybe not," Icekit replied, smirking. "But know one thing. No matter how far along in the clan you get, you'll always have me." "And me," Otterkit added. Eaglekit nodded, smiling. No matter what happened, she would always have her best friends by her side. And together, they could get through anything. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- New characters: Otterkit - big brown tom with blue eyes Renamed characters: Eaglekit - brown tabby shekit with deep blue eyes Icekit - very light silvery blue tabby shekit with icy blue eyes

Description

Sorry for the REALLY long wait... I wanted to get this done this weekend, I really did. Buuuut I didn't have the best Sunday. I'm still a bit depressed about it. Oh well, life goes on. (The part about the friends thing....MAN MY EMOTIONS ARE SHOWING THROUGH IN MY WRITING *slaps self*) Ahem. Anyways, to the chapter... So in case you didn't get it, Eaglekit, Otterkit, and Icekit are the only three kits right now. And there aren't any apprentices. AKA Eaglekit isn't the only one who doesn't want kits XD Otterkit is slightly older then Eaglekit and Icekit, who are sisters. Its likely they will be apprenticed together though, because Otterkit is just like a week or two older then they are. Canyonclan doesn't have to deal with other clans, or much in the way of prey scarcity (mostly water problems in the middle of summer, but prey goes to where there's water, so if they cant find water they often cant find food either. They never see snow, and if they do, they're like "WHAT?!") and they don't have any other clans to worry about, and only the occasional twoleg hunter. They only really worry about hawks and *dun dun dun* THE COYOTE PACK. The coyote pack lives on the other side of the Canyon, and the two species struggle against each other for survival. Hope you had a better weekend then me. Scratch on.
