Making Scratch Animations: Hey! Here’s a little tutorial for you ^-^ Theory: The idea of an animation to show someone lots of pictures with only tiiiiiny changes in them really fast. Like a flipbook! (dunno if you kids have ever seen one of those, here’s a link to a video of one: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p3q9MM__h-M) The idea of what you’ll be building is *almost exactly* that. With music. About cute things (I’m guessing). Practice: The first step you’re going to need to do, is make an account on Scratch: https://scratch.mit.edu/ Afterwards you can head over to this address: https://scratch.mit.edu/projects/291419044/ and look at a smaller version of the animation we looked at before. I turned my favorite gif on that page we saw earlier into an animation, you can see it here! https://scratch.mit.edu/projects/291419044 You might notice that the image moves a little slowly. We’ll go through why that is and how to fix it next time. For now let’s have you make your own animation. Action steps: You are welcome to draw your images, or, you can start off by using images from pre-existing gifs. If you want to make your own images, awesome! The first step is going to be to start drawing! You probably need about 10 pictures per second, but cause most of the details in each image should be the same, you can trace previous images. Take pictures of your drawings to use for your animation, and save them as a flipbook! If you want to use a pre-existing gif Head over to https://giphy.com/search/cute-animals find the gif you want to use Then left click on it. You’ll see the gif on a different page. Right click to download it (the option that downloads is “save as”) Now that you’ve done these steps, you’ll need to make an animation file and upload your work to scratch. Getting started Go to https://scratch.mit.edu/projects/291419044 Click the green “remix” button This is your animation!
