My attempt at doing my own activity: https://sta.sh/0shvgn0ek43 I'm not too sure about how well it ended up characterizing them, haha xD but that's a reason I'm at SWC myself, right?

Description

Hi everyone! (sorry to all my followers who aren't in Scratch Writing Camp, I don't have an alt account so a bunch of my projects here are going to be for the camp - only in March though, don't worry! Feel free to do any of these if they interest you.) To all my campers, welcome to the Poetry Cabin! I've taken it upon myself to see to it that you develop your writing skills a little more this month. All Weekly Writing Activities (WWAs) are totally optional and do not count for main cabin points (those are gotten from the daily/weekly activities provided by the main cabin). You can use them to work on your word goals, of course! When you complete a WWA, if you want me to take a look at it and offer feedback, then put it in a remix of this project or link it to me in a comment. (I will only do this for SWC campers). I will also not look at it outside of the Active Dates (unless you were away or something for that week) Okay, onto this week's activity!------------------------------- Character Portrayals - A Show of Words Active Dates: March 1 to March 7, 2019 Instructions: 1. Pick a character - it doesn't matter who, as long as you understand them (that will make things a bit easier for you, anyway). Can be your OC or pre-existing (but if it belongs to someone and it's their personal characters, you should ask permission from them first) 2. Come up with a scene to put them in -- this can also be whatever you want it to be! Like, you could do a dramatic scene, or comedy, or something casual and relaxed. Just make sure they are going to be doing things in it. 3. Now write that scene, but here are some things you have to do when you're writing it! --you should try to characterize the character - in other words, a reader should be able to discern the personality/traits of the character you're writing about through what you put in the scene! --however, you can't directly state their character traits (no "he is kind" or "they are afraid of interacting with people") --try to avoid using a lot of adverbs and try to use strong and specific verbs instead! --focus in on what makes this character unique (hint - it's often in the little things~) Explanation: Sometimes it’s difficult to make a character come across the way we want without resorting to telling our audience directly. I’d like to encourage you to step out of your comfort zone, though, and really try to bring someone to life here! Eventually I also want you to consider the reasons why a character exists in a story and the themes or other elements they contribute to a work as a whole. However, before doing that, let’s explore some of what makes writing an art form! For some practical tips, consider this. A character conveys their personality in everything they feel, see and do. What your character notices and sees as important is part of their character; the way that they interact with objects and people is part of their character; the way that they move around is part of their character! Try to be specific with your verbs and nouns, as well as adjectives. You also have your five senses to work with. And search for ways to make your individual voice work for your writing! Word choices, any figurative language, the structure of your sentences and paragraphs, the details that you choose to include: they add up, so use them all to your advantage :) This is the first week of SWC, just relax and enjoy yourself! I’m actually the most curious to see where everyone is starting from, as I’d like to be able to connect with each of your writing styles individually and help you develop them. Again, you don’t have to do this by any means. But I do have some level of experience to share if you like, even if I’m not the most amazing writer on earth ^^;
