"Madcap was well loved by everyone who knew him. He was so lighthearted and goofy. He was especially loved by his owners. But then, everything changed on that fateful day. Madcap stretched in the morning sunlight. "Eh there! Not sneaking off to get into trouble, are we?" Madcap looked up at the fence. "Why, me? Since when have you ever known me to get into trouble, Odin?" He looked up at the grizzled, one eyed cat above him. "You mind that road, ya hear?" Madcap was already bounding away. "I will!" He raced across the Twoleg lawns, eager to see his soon to be mate. At last, he spotted her house. Padding up to the porch, he yowled loudly. "Pristine, your Prince of Romance awaits." A fluffy white she cat emerged from the cat flap. "More like the Prince of Fleas." Madcap gasped in mock offense. "My vet said I've been clear if fleas for a week now." He walked to and nuzzled Pristine. She shoved his tail off her shoulder. "Are you sure we should go? I mean, you're talking about dog alley." Madcap licked her on the shoulder. "Baby, don't worry. It's just a little fun." She sighed. "Of course your idea of fun means almost certain death." Madcap padded onwards, then stopped at the edge of the yard. "Are you coming?" Pristine sighed. "You're dumber than a sleeping flea." Pristine peered down the forboding alley. There were at least five huge dogs, all with chains around their necks. "Cap, I don't think we should do this." Madcap snorted, and leapt onto a nearby trash can. "Oh, don't do this," he teased as he knocked over the can. The noise alerted the dogs, sending them into a frenzy of barking, He laughed as one bit at the air six inches from his tail. "See, there's nothing to worry about." Right then, one of the chains snapped. "Run!" The pair of cats bolted. "Head for the road!" Madcap shouted. Pristine bolted across, and stopped at the other side, panting. Madcap paused for a moment, allowing the dog to get closer. At the last moment, he darted onto the road. Bright lights blinded him, and everything went black. "I'm okay!" Madcap sighed with relief. As he looked around, he noticed that the sky had grown darker, and that Pristine was no longer there. "Must've been out for a while." He stood up, and fluffed out his pelt. "The housefolk are going to be missing me right about now." As he padded off, he paws seemed to be lighter. The back door was open, so he went in. He purred and rubbed his people's legs as always, but they did not scratch behind his ears as they normally would. "That's odd." He sat down and began to yowl, but still got no response. "Pristine! Are you home?" Pristine emerged from the cat flap, her eyes wide with shock. "No! I must be going mad!" Madcap cocked his head. "What are you talking about?" Pristine took a step back. "I saw you! I know I saw you!" Madcap looked at her, puzzled. "What do you mean, I'm sitting right here." She sighed, then sobbed. "I mean I watched you die!" "Wait, so let me get this straight. When the car hit me, I died." Madcap looked to Pristine for confirmation. "And then, now you can see me as a ghost?" Pristine nodded, still dazed. "But now I guess, that means, we can't be mates now?" He said with great sadness. Pristine gazed into his eyes. "To death do us part." Madcap plopped down, frustrated. "But now death has passed!" Pristine sat down next to him. "But who says we can't rewrite the vows?" Okay, now that the Splash moment is out of the way... This was such a fun story to make and picture to draw! I accidentally forgot a few details, due to not being able to see the reference because I didn't have WIFI. I hope you like him! Edit: I just realized I made his eyes blue instead of the orange.
