Description

Chapter 26 - December 19, 2017 - Vincent I considered skipping the dance. I’d lost my love interest to my uncontrollable powers and there’s nothing I can do about it. What a great way to start Christmas season. I was pretty sure Royce had asked her to the dance— when I went back inside after Tempest ran, I looked out the window a while later to find Royce walking in the direction of Tempest’s house. I wasn’t sure if she’d been cheating me since she came, or if Royce had gone to Tempest’s without her permission. Either way, I just lost somebody who could’ve been the love of my life. I’m sure she hates me now. At study hall the next day, ‘she’ began following me around like crazy. She was trying to pull me over, I knew it. “You’re going with me to the courtyard,” she demanded, whisking me over as I tried desperately to clutch my binder in one hand. “Sit. Down.” I didn’t give much second thought, and she sat down with me by the bench. I peered into the window to see Genesis in the hall, telling Royce someting. I didn’t bother and turned to face Tempest. “Don’t even start. It’s my fault. I didn’t tell you about it.” Tempest cocked her head in confusion. “Tell me what?” “My… my powers,” I continued. “But I know all about them. You taught me magic, for heaven’s sake!” “I didn’t tell you everything.” “You can’t be hiding all that from me!” “Apparently I can.” We went back and forth like that for a bit longer before I finally broke lose. “The powers. I can’t control them!” Tempest frowned. “What are you telling me? Why are you telling me this now?” I burst into tears. “I NEVER KNEW THIS WOULD HAPPEN!” She sighed. “Look, you’re lucky I brought us here; otherwise we’d get into trouble for doing this.” I sighed, still breathing heavily. “You know what? No. Forget it. You don’t want me back. Just go with Royce. It’ll be easier that way.” Inside, I only half meant it. Tempest looked so shocked. I didn’t know whether to approach her later that day, or to just leave it and worry about better things than that. I tried to clear my head before the next period, but I didn’t manage to write anything in my binder— only spatter it with tears, hoping that nobody, even Tempest or Royce, realized how big of a mess I got myself into. That was when Royce barged into the courtyard. I checked the clock. Still fifteen minutes left. “I know what’s going on,” he said. This all over again, I thought, exasperated. “You don’t— you don’t know everything, Royce.” Royce sighed. “I know that you weren’t being rude this year because that’s you. It’s the powers, isn’t it?” I nearly fell off the bench. “You knew this whole time?!” Royce gritted his teeth in annoyance. “Tempest told me.” I knew it. She dumped me already. “But I’m still not sure how she feels about you right now.” So as of now, none of my problems have been sorted out. Wonderful.
