Description

Where am I? Been a while, scratch.mit.edu! I missed you! Decided it'd only be right to remix some animation meme and create a low-effort Scratch project in celebration of 3.0's release. The new editor is interesting. In many ways, it seems like a downgrade from 2.0- there are improvements, sure, but I was disappointed to find lots of empty space that could be used for the interface, a worse version of the previous sprite editors, a less intuitive audio editor, the absence of community blocks in the 2.0 invite-only experiments, and blocks that seem oddly misshapen. It's probably the typical "internet user change-adverseness", but it still felt like a bit of a letdown after the delays. Maybe it'll grow on me. For now, I'm taking it as a sign that I've moved on. I started using Scratch in the 1.4 editor back when I was in 3rd grade- I think that was 2011. I'm a sophomore in High School now (???) and still can't help but come crawling back to Scratch every so often, even though I've been taking proper computer science classes. I have a lot to thank Scratch and this community for- I can't say it taught me to program, but it certainly did teach me to "think" in the right way and get me acquainted with the basic structures of programming which made the transition a lot easier. I also met a *lot* of people in a safe environment which made growing up in the digital age a lot more happy than it could have been had I planted my home base on other sites. The community here introduced me to some of my longest-lasting interests (programming! art! valve games! sadly, anime!) Very rarely I'll meet someone elsewhere on the web and we'll find out that we knew each-other on this website way back when. It's pretty cool. I don't keep in close contact with too many people from the AT forums or the comments sections frequently anymore, but I'd be lying if I didn't say I don't think of you guys pretty often. You're all great people. Coming back to Scratch, I'm happy to see that the community hasn't changed one bit. Kitty Artists still reign supreme, albeit the front page more reflective of the ST's semi-new "angle". Programming projects are still fun and inspiring. This is a great website and I'm happy to see it continue to change and grow. Seeya.
