@TechEpic and I are trying to figure out a fake way to calculate fog diffusion positions in pathmarching/tracing without approximating using stepping, for an ultra-realistic fog effect. That one variable basically approximates how high the highest point on the graph probably might be sort of close to. turns out you just plug in a Y value yeah it's pretty easy...
