The Watersports studio inspired me to make a project about my favorite sport-- swimming! I thought it'd be fun to try to make a blockshade using a photo of one of my favorite swimmers, Simone Manuel. In the 2016 Olympics, Manuel won the 100 meter freestyle (and broke the world record!), becoming the first Black American woman to win gold in an individual Olympic swimming event. She also did well in her other events, metaling in relays and the 50 free. There are lots of great photos of her, but I chose this one because I liked how it showed her power in the pool. I'd never done a blockshade before and it was challenging-- but kind of relaxing too :) The original image is by Al Bello, on Getty Images Song is "Holding Steady" by Podington Bear
