Instructions

This project shows 96 games played by the Boston Red Sox in 2018. You don't play the games; you just watch them, but it's fun! The action is based on what actually happened. Click the green flag to load game 1, then press the RIGHT ARROW KEY or TAP THE BOTTOM OF THE STAGE to display each play. Press D to show/hide source data. Press G to show/hide game data. Click on any player to see his identity, or press P to see all defenders. Press SPACE or click the TOP OF THE STAGE to select a new game by number: Fenway regular season games (1 to 81), All-Star Game (82), AL Division Series (83-86), AL Championship Series (87-91), and World Series (92-96).

Description

Game data comes from retrosheet.org, whose volunteer contributors are publishing records of every major league baseball game ever played in a machine-readable format. There are thousands of data files on the site, representing past and present teams and seasons back to the late 1800s. Although data for recent seasons includes records of every pitch, for the sake of time, this project displays only the last pitch to each batter. If you watch for a while, you may notice some bugs - e.g. the ball going to bases not covered by fielders. I'll try to track these down. If you find anything glaring, feel free to post in the comments! If you want to remix and do a different team or season, download the desired .eve (Event) file from retrosheet.org. Then delete all of the contents of the list called Data in your remix, and right-click to import the new text file as the source data. The information used here was obtained free of charge from and is copyrighted by Retrosheet. Interested parties may contact Retrosheet at 20 Sunset Rd., Newark, DE 19711.
