A Dragon’s Lie Prologue Claws scraped the ground as the dragons ran to the hills. Their scales, battered, and bleeding. Wind hit their eyes and their wings dragged behind them, if they had wings. The hatchlings were safe and were running next to their mothers or, being carried. The eggs rattled in the safety of their mothers wings, my egg, was scratched and had many bruises. My mother tells me I’m lucky. I think not. I’m different from everyone else, I just want to be normal. My name is Hibiki, which means Echo, and this is my story. Chapter One The missing son I stalked across the damp grass as the other hatchlings laughed at me. Though I wanted to fight them, I dealt with this every day. Like always, it doesn't matter that my uncle is the leader. It only matters who my parents are and WHO I am I mumbled, “Hey! Look it’s Ground-Paw!” Plasma howled, his gang broke out into laughs and grunts. I was still limping from when my egg was hurt, and my wings were torn. “Yeah, yeah, funny.” I responded, with much dislike and hatred in my tone, “Oh? You’re mad eh?” He taunted, jumping down from his ledge and stalking up to me. I hated the smirk he wore when he did this. I whispered hate, under my breath. “No one likes that stupid smirk” I growled, baring my fangs, “Oh, well maybe it’s just the fact that… well no one likes Ground-paws” he sneered, his smirk looked like an ugly caterpillar, by now my muzzle was scrunched up and I was getting ready to leap, “Well no one likes you!” I barked and leaped at him. I folded my wings and attacked Plasma, I bit down hard and his foreleg while he scraped my tail. I threw my claws at his face, he dogged and stomped on my tail. I growled and kicked his under belly throwing him off, he hit the rock ledge and jumped back up. I jumped at him and pinned him to the ground, “You... you insult my kind…’’ I growled in a whisper next to his face ready to fight, I took heavy breaths in between each word, “I-I have to listen to your insults every day…’’ I felt teeth on my scruff as a dragon picked me up, then I saw Plasma’s dad pick him up. I tried to struggle free from the grip, but it just made it harder. Everyone was quiet, I felt eyes creeping up on me, “You two need to STOP.’’ The dragon said in a low growl, I saw Plasma’s dad scold him, as seeing his ears go down. The dragon dropped me half-heartedly, I spun around to her, she was my mother,”This happens twice a week!” she scolded. I looked down, my paws felt chained to the floor, “Well I’m trying to get outside and then he..He!” I complained, I pointed at him with my tail, “Just stay away then.’’ she said looking at me, “I try! I really do!” I yaped, “I try but, he always does this..” I looked away, my ears were flat against my head. I looked at Plasma, he looked like he was about to explode of ugly caterpillars, She let out a sigh, as she did so our leader, Midnight, walked by, “What happened today?” he asked, walking up to me, “They got in another fight.’’ my mother said, not meeting my gaze. I looked up at Midnight, he was as calm as a leaf in a autumn breeze, “Anyways sis,’’ he started, “I need to talk to Hibiki.’’ he raised a paw and ruffed up my ears. I walked alongside my uncle. He was all black with purple eyes. As we neared the leaders den, Plasma threw himself on me, I heard his dad howl in trumpith. I was flung to the ground, I bit his ears and raked my claws on his neck while trying to throw him off. He clung on my claw, I was ready, I was sure that I would defeat the ugly caterpillar, I opened my mouth and roared, a blue plasma looking fireball shot out, it hit him square in the chest. He looked dazed and dizzy, he fell with a thump to the ground. I stared in disbelief, as shocked as I was, I felt happiness and triumph glow inside me. Plasma’s dad was as still as a stone, my mother spun around at the sound of the thundering boom, Midnight was not showing anger, sadness, or happiness, in fact he showed nothing at all. Plasma flinched, not moving after that, the medicine dragon bolted out over to him. The medicine dragon, Zin, overlooked Plasma, everyone waited for an answer,

Description

“Plasma,’’ he said, “Plasma will live, Hibiki just learned this, the move right now is weak, but, when older, the move will become stronger, more damage, even death might be caused.’’ Zin stopped, picked up Plasma and walked off to his den. I looked in the clearing, dragons looked at me, I felt that I was now going to forever be watched and be known as a danger. Midnight put his tail around my back, he didn’t have to say anything, I stood up and walked to his den. I looked inside, the ground was sand, a small pond next to a mossy bed, vines blacked off the outside, a small, narrow, tunnel which I guessed was an escape route, Midnight brushed past me and settled down in his very much used bed. I stumbled up and sat down, I felt small looking up to him, “Ok,’’ he said, turning his voice to a somewhere in between a whisper, and a normal voice, “Your mother and I have a lost brother, and,’’ he looked at me, “And, I want you to go on a mission to find him.’’ He looked at me, I didn’t know what to say, “But I don’t know how to fly!” I complained, “That’s why I’m going to teach you.’’ Yet again he showed no emotion. After a couple weeks of training, I could fly, and when ever I walk past Plasma, he gets scared. I felt free after the attack with Plasma ended, the air didn’t feel thick, I could walk without feeling chained to the ground. I was heading toward the clearing, after just out on a morning hunt, the limp, cold, sheep hung from my jaws. I stumbled over to the prey pile, parted my jaws and dropped the sheep. Plasma was hiding under his rock with his gang. Midnight leaped up, onto high tree, the old soft huge oak tree branches swayed under his weight. He roared for everyone to gather. He waited for the breeze to be the only thing that you heard. “Ok, today our new Half-wing Hibiki shall be going on a quest.’’ murmurs’ ran through the group, “You’re letting that demon help us!” a dragon yelled, “Silence!’’ his words sliced threw the air, everyone looked frightened, “I don’t want to exile you like his father.’’ he growled, “As I was saying, he will be looking for my, and Rose’s, lost brother. You may be asking why, well, as you know, only males can be leader, as our ancestors told us, and once he finds him, in hope that he has male hatchlings, they will be next in line. And the reason I’m not picking Hibiki is he doesn't want to be leader.’’ he finished his words with a quick like wind, glance around the assembled dragons. The sound of the falling pine nettles was calming as the dragons went back to what they were doing. It was the day I had to leave, Zin had given me herbs for the journey, My mum had tried to make me stay, Plasma was acting like a mouse being chased by a tiger, and Midnight said he was happy that I’m his nephew. I was sitting strongly on the high tree. I looked over at the passerby, they were happy. I saw Midnight flirting with Plasma’s mother Shade, I gagged at the thought. I leaped down, bending my claw in the process, and headed towards the exit. Midnight skidded to a halt next to me, “Well, farewell, bring him home.’’ I swear I saw a tear trickle down his cheek. Plasma was glaring at me, my mum waved her wing goodbye. I looked out at the forest, the tree I would (but not supposed to) try to learn to fly early, was raked with my claw marks, only the top of the tree had bark. I walked out, leaped up and flew into the morning sun, (witch blinded me as I flew).
