Description

I open up scratch every day and I am confronted by all the rants and hatred about 3.0. Why is this such a big problem? and why aren't I complaining too? Introduction; Creatures of habit. I am a cat. Forever a cat. We cats are what you would call creatures of habit. We thrive on routine. It helps us to feel confident, happy, and safe in our environment. Want to hear a secret? Humans are creatures of habit too! We develop constant routines and strategies to fit our daily lives, situations, and environment. When something changes in this fragile routine and practice, it can inflict us. So many of us have known scratch for years, meeting friends, creating code, flourishing in art, and we have all embed a pattern and routine into our brains much like that of the code we create in projects. You pull code together to make a cooperating system that is displayed on your screen. The code must be fluent and sufficient so that it works how it should. What happens if you change the code? Well, things don't always go to plan. This is what 3.0 is doing to our routine. Creatures of habit don't like change. We don't like difference. This is what creates half the political drama across the world. Everyone is ranting and have mixed opinions about the upcoming update because of the change, because of how this huge step will destroy our routines and crumble our habits. Because nothing will seem the way it was. Why change is a good thing; Why? If change creates all of these negative emotions and destroys our habits then why on earth do we change things? Simple. Change is not always bad, in fact, change can bring so much good to our lives. Think about it. If the scratch team never changed things what would this website be like now? Very buggy that's for sure.Un-fluent, boring, and hard to use. When 3.0 is released, our community will more than likely be flourishing in a new, pretty, fluent, and practical environment that will be the new scratch. As scary as it is, you shouldn't be afraid of change. Change is amazing and is one of the reasons why the human race has survived as long as it has. This coming update is going to be very important towards the growth of this website and so will all the others that follow it. Conclusion; 3.0, whilst causing quite a bit mayhem and worry will ultimately be an amazing leap for this community that will bring us one step closer to fully reaching this site's potential and glory. It is more than natural to feel uncomfortable about the change, it's what makes us, well, us and you shouldn't be afraid to speak up. We, as the amazing scratches that bind this website together, should be proud o be able to advance in this way. To be able to change for the better and to create new and better routines to suit our fast-growing environment. We believe in the scratch team to lead us and they believe in us to continue to make this place what it is today. Let's work together. Let's embrace the change. Thank you if you took the time to read this and I hope that you understand know that it is fine to disagree with 3.0 and that this change will bring good to us all. Sorry for any spelling or grammar mistakes. I'm only 13 and pretty horrible in that cattogory. Best of wishes, @FoxTicker
