-Some info about the SD70AH #1943 and the history of "the spirit of the union pacific"- The SD70AH's are among the SD70 siris built by EMD, the SD70AH is basically a heavier version of the SD70ACe. The SD70AH weighs 428,000 lbs., instead of the 420,000 lbs. of the SD70ACe. A Boing B-17 was christened "The spirit of the Union Pacific" in 1943, to recognize Union Pacific employees who funded it through war bond contributions. The Spirit of the Union Pacific was assigned to the 571st bomber squadron and was shot down on its fifth mission. Union Pacific #1943 is the 16th commemorate locomotive in the railroads 155th-year history, #1943 honors the United States and the men and women that filled the ranks. Created in collaboration with Union Pacific veterans, the locomotive illustrates the Railroad's connection to the thousands of veterans who helped build America through the centuries.
