"Where did you get these wounds?"Oceanpaw asked in disbelief. Dawnpaw replied, "I...got caught in a bramble bush." Skeptically,her littermate mewed, "Are you sure?" The gray she-cat snapped back, "I'm sure!" Oceanpaw got quiet,chewing the horsetail poultice in her jaws.These wounds,especially the bitten tail,couldn't come from anything but a warrior's paws.But if her littermate didn't want to talk about it,she wouldn't press her. "Have you seen Whiskerpelt's new litter yet?"Oceanpaw changed the subject. "Yeah."Dawnpaw's voice was absent. Oceanpaw tensed.That wasn't like Dawnpaw.She loved kits! "Well,we're going to the Gathering,"she meowed. That got her attention. "We went to the last one." "Almondpaw had to stay behind,"she reminded Dawnpaw. "He did,it /was/ just you and me.Are we all going?" "Yep!All four of us!" She rubbed the poultice over the scratch on Dawnpaw's flank. 0o0o0o0 Songstar clambered onto the StarRock,and opened his mouth to yowl to the cats below. "Let everyone gather beneath the StarRock to hear the news of the Clans!" The four littermates exchanged excited glances.They were about to hear their father speak! "Everything has been well in SongClan,"he mewed. "Prey is plentiful." Rabbitstar stepped forward. "I have nothing to report.Our Clan is as strong as ever." "So is ours,"Snowstar meowed. Fangstar stepped forward,tail lashing. "One of our apprentices was found dead on the SongClan border,"he spat. "Ghostpaw." Oceanpaw looked over at Dawnpaw,and was confused to see her sister with a stricken expression on her face.Surely she had no reason to grieve for a FangClan apprentice? "That is why,"Fangstar continued, "we believe SongClan warriors killed him." Songstar leaped to his paws,anger flaring in his eyes,and yowls erupted from the SongClan cats. "Fangstar must have bees in his brain!"Almondpaw whispered. "What kind of SongClan cat would murder a FangClan apprentice?" Dawnpaw was shaking. "Meet me at the stone hollow tomorrow,"she muttered. "Why?"Firepaw asked,bewildered. "I can't tell you here." Fangstar's voice,raised in an angry yowl,echoed across the clearing. "Enough!Songstar,we WILL attack your camp.So watch your back!" With that,the Gathering was over.The four littermates rushed to their father,ears flat back. "Are they really going to attack?"Oceanpaw gasped. "They can't blame us!"Firepaw mewed. "They don't have any proof!" "FangClan has always been reactionary,"Songstar comforted his kits. "I'm sure they'll come to their senses soon." But his eyes said something different.And Oceanpaw was sure no one else saw it.
