.:Sorrelshade Speaks: A Kit Leaves Too Soon:. I still remember the day I lost her. Berrykit. Playful, strong, fierce. She would have been a great warrior. My last kit, and she just slipped away, out of my paws and into StarClan. It was too soon. She never should have left me. Berrykit never deserved this. No kit deserves to go to StarClan. They should live to become warriors. It was the coldest leaf-bare I could ever imagine. Curled around my last surviving kit, Berrykit, I frantically licked her head, keeping her warm. The nursery wasn't warm anymore. I was the only one inside. Another harsh wind blew through the entrance, carrying snow with it. Berrykit whimpered. She scampered away and ran outside. I dragged after her, my limbs stiff from cold. Berrykit was pawing at a squirrel larger than her. I smiled. Berrykit was perfect. She shivered, fluffing out her fur. A breeze flattened it. She stared at the gorse tunnel, and, without warning, slipped out of camp. I let out a yelp and followed her. I searched, but the snow was making her scent vanish. I ran around for what seemed like moons before I saw a small scrap of fur, whiskers iced over, lying still in the silvery snow. "No. It can't be her. Oh, StarClan, please, NO!!!" I yowled to the sky. I padded over to Berrykit and grabbed her by the scruff. Then I carried her to camp. Cats came out of the dens to find out why I had been whimpering. I lay Berrykit in the middle of the clearing, pressing my nose into her cold fur. Adderstrike sat down next to me. "Sorrelshade. Berrykit will always be safe and sound in StarClan. She will watch over us." I knew he was right. But I would never forget her. And every leaf-bare, I sleep out in the clearing, where I could gaze at the stars, and to remember the kit I loved most.
