Oceanpaw sniffed at the bundle of thyme Lavenderflight had pushed under her nose. "It's good for shock,right?" Lavenderflight meowed, "Yes,Oceanpaw.You're a quick study." The medicine cat slunk back into her herb stores as Dapplepaw limped in,followed by her mentor,Creamflash. Lavenderflight pulled her head out. "What happened?" Stoneflicker and Maplepaw entered. "We were ambushed by foxes nearby the FangClan border." Windfang joined them. "Yeah.We're all pretty beat up." Oceanpaw sniffed a nasty-looking gash on Maplepaw's ear. "Ouch." Maplepaw ducked away. "It's nothing." "Oceanpaw,here's some comfrey,"her mentor called. "Spread it on those cuts." Oceanpaw chewed up the comfrey.Then she could hear some other she-cat in her head,a she-cat that sounded like...HER. <Comfrey is good for pains,>the voice whispered.It sounded quiet,sweet,and kind-like a full-grown she-cat who was already trained to heal. <It will help their injuries.> Oceanpaw paused,confused.Who was in her head? She finished chewing up her comfrey and spat it into her pad.As she tried to smear it onto Maplepaw's ear,the apprentice ducked away. "Are you sure you know what you're doing?" Dapplepaw snapped, "Maplepaw,her mentor just told her what to do!Don't be rude!" Maplepaw glared at her denmate,but let Oceanpaw spread comfrey over her ear and a bite mark on her shoulder.Lavenderflight went over to Windfang and used horsetail on his bitten tail. <Horsetail is good for preventing infection,>she heard the voice whisper. Creamflash looked nervous. "First there was fox scent on the border.Now we have Firekit missing,and foxes attacking!" Oceanpaw rubbed comfrey on her cuts. "Don't remind me." Lavenderflight finished treating Dapplepaw and helped Stoneflicker. "No duties for the rest of the day,"Lavenderflight ordered. "And I want to keep Dapplepaw here.She was pretty badly injured.The rest of you can return to duties tommorrow." "Oh,come on!"Dapplepaw complained. "You might as well do what she says,"Oceanpaw mewed gently. "You'll never get better chasing mice all day!" Dapplepaw sighed. "Fine." And just like that,Oceanpaw's first emergency healing was over...but was her adventure about to start?
