Firekit yawned and watched the moon setting.Her 3 littermates were already asleep,filled with the mouse Dawnkit had found.But Firekit wasn't as sleepy as they were.She was alert,waiting for her opportunity to ask Songstar what happened at the Gathering. As her father led his Clan in,Firekit pricked her ears.The Clan was muttering about FangClan. "What does Fangstar mean,lost kits?"Flametail muttered. "Fox attacks?"Gingerheart mewed,worry in his voice. "Is this related to the fox scent we found on our borders?" "It has to be!"Rustpaw exclaimed. "The scent was on the FangClan border,Gingerheart!" Oceankit lifted her head groggily. "What's going on?" "Apparently FangClan's been having trouble with fox attacks,"Firekit explained. The gradient kit's ears curved forward. "Really?" Firekit heard rustling as Scarwhisper came out of the den towards them.<No!>she thought,knowing that their mother would tell them it was time for bed. <I want to hear more!> "Come along,kits,"she mewed. "I think you've heard enough.It's time for bed." Firekit trotted reluctantly in,but a plan was brewing inside her head.A plan to run away,take care of the foxes,and get back.She could easily do all that before midnight! 0o0o0o0 Firekit made sure all 3 of her littermates and her mother were sleeping soundly before creeping out of the den,glancing up at the oval moon.Was her family going to sleep the whole day?Firekit had no intention of staying long enough to find out.She slipped out the dirtplace tunnel,as Gingerheart was guarding the entrance,and sniffed the ground,finding the fox scent. It led off territory,into new lands no cat had ever seen before.Firekit disregarded that completely and followed it,sure she could beat the enemy into submission and return. A big mistake.
