Nightwind really did love Torridclaw, just as much as Venomclaw did. He was absolutely heartbroken when she revealed that she was expecting Venomclaw's kits and swore he would never again see her as his love, turning instead to Willowsong. He declared war on Torridclaw and the rest of her clan when he became leader, unfortunately driving Willowsong to join Meadowclan because she didn't like his violent ways.
