Chapter 2 - August 23, 2017 - Royce I’m Royce, a senior year high schooler that has absolutely no idea what he’s doing. I recently moved into the state of Michigan, from Canada. Today’s my first day of senior year, and I’m walking into the building feeling extremely dumbfounded— even more than the average new student. As I walked into the building, the first person I saw was a pale, black-haired girl with deep blue eyes. She glanced at me in a surprised way, like she didn’t exactly know who I was. I saw a familiar blonde girl walking next to her, and I knew exactly who I’d just seen. I assumed the black-haired girl did know who I was, but, of course, you can never be sure. Secretly, I thought she looked a little pretty, but I didn’t want to blow anything before the morning bell rang. Once I got to my homeroom class, I ended up plopping into a chair next to a guy with silver-dyed hair and bold green eyes. He looked a bit like a troublemaker, with his sly-looking grin and mildly off-putting stare. The pale girl from earlier was sitting on his other side, chatting with him until the bell rang— much to my surprise Eventually, I, of course, crossed paths with another naive-looking girl with deep brown hair and hazel eyes. “Hello!” she exclaimed. “You’re the new guy, aren’t you?” You’re one to talk, I thought. “Yeah, I am. Do you happen to have history during the next class? By the way, the name’s Royce.” “Mm-hmm. Do you want to, umm, walk with me so you don’t get lost, or something of the sort?” “Sure,” I replied sheepishly. Lunchtime came rolling in, and I was quite nervous to ask people to sit with me— I’ve been pretty shy all my life, and it’s not any different now. So, of course, I ended up sitting at a table alone, which wasn’t really too bad; it was only the first day, after all. Hoping that things would soon get better, I unpacked my lunch and ate in silence.
