This is my coloring contest! This is due CHAPTER ONE fire Zodiac cut her talons across my face and I spit up blood. My tannish coat was already covered in cuts from previous training battles, but us Flamebringers healed fast. I took a swipe at Zodiac but she darted away, her black and purple fur gleaming in the tiny bits of light that filtered into the dark cave. The only reason anyone trained with me was to win, so I had learned to take my place as the Omega, even though I was the son of the leader. I had lost every time, so my place was a given. Blood. More blood. I spit more blood on the ground, then in Zodiac’s face. She bristled and leaped at me. I dodged and then silently chastised myself not to try to win again when her face slammed into the pointed stone behind me. There was a sickening thud, crack and Zodiac slid onto the ground, leaving skid marks of blood on the rock. Blood splattered on the hard stone ground.I trotted over and nudged her with my snout. As upset as I was, I didn’t really want her- or anyone else -to die. She didn’t move or bite me in the face. I slapped her with my paw. Nothing. “Zodiac, Zodiac?” No answer. I considered getting the training coach, but he would tell me to have Zodiac walk it off. So I pushed my ear up to her chest to listen for a heartbeat through the fur. Nothing. No pulse, no breathing. I wished I knew CPR, but I didn’t. I backed away from Zodiac’s body in horror. My breath caught in my throat, and I stifled a sob. Murderer. I was a dirty murderer, waste of a life. Crowfood. I turned to the exit and ran for my sanity. CHAPTER TWO ashes Mila ran ahead of me, her silver fur glittering, and stuck out her tongue. She laughed and slowed down so Wilda, Zanie and I could catch up. She paced around us and smiled like the rest of us were in clown suits. Mila was always happy. After all, weren’t we all? Us Windwatchers had everything to be happy about. No issues, no problems. The only thing that could strike fear in our hearts was a Flamebringer. Those slimy rats lived in caves and ate worms and centipedes, is what we heard. So all in all, perfect lives. Mila, Wilda, Zanie and I were wandering around the border of the Flamebringer and Windwatcher nations. I thought about how if I would react if I saw a Flamebringer came upon us. I would get Mila, Zanie and Wilda out of there fast. My little sisters were my top priority. Which is why I panicked when Mila screamed. “Wilda, Zanie, go back home! If i’m not back with Mila by two pm, tell moma what happened!” They nodded, black coats bristling, and darted into the woods, I flew towards where Mila had ran ahead of us. When I burst through the brush, I saw a chocolate and cream colored Flamebringer standing over her, its talons digging into her shoulder. Mila was writhing in pain on the floor, and I choked back tears. I tensed to spring, when the Flamebringer looked right at me. It cackled and gestured it’s head towards the entrance of the cave it’s nation must’ve lived in. “Going to run, little hero?” The Flamebringer called. “Well run into there and your sister might live!” I wanted to spit a retort in its face, but my words caught in my throat. I raised a paw, and put it in front of me. Soon I was plodding slowly towards the cave mouth. I was, in a matter of minutes standing before the king of the Flamebringers. His red-gold fur was dotted with fresh and dried blood, and he sat on a throne of fused bones. Thirty Flamebringers of varying color coats but each with black horns that flickered with multicolored flames. The king looked down at me. His eyes were black, with a sort of hidden flickering green fire. He grinned, and his teeth were yellow with bones stuck between them. Mila was lying on the ground, her silver fur turning pink with blood, her breath ragged. Then the small, tannish-gold tom ran right into the room. “Ah, my son. You finally arrived.” The king said in a deep, rumbling voice. The small tom stuttered and his feet were apparently very, very interesting. The king smiled again. “End his life.” CHAPTER THREE fire The grey and white Windwatcher stood frozen in front of the doorway and met my gaze. His blue eyes were full of despair and hatred. I forced myself to tear my eyes aw
