This simulation illustrates the Monty Hall Probability Problem which sometimes comes up in high school probability. The question stumps the smartest mathematicians. First, you pick a curtain in search of the car. The host will then reveal what is behind one of the curtains that was not chosen - always showing one of the goats. Then you are asked if you would like to stick with your original curtain or switch to the remaining curtain. Students think the probability is 50% either way. After running this simulation many times, they should notice that switching gives you a 2/3 probability. Students can even change the code so that the curtains are always open to help see why the probability is 2/3. The National Common Core mathematics standards includes experimental simulations as well as theoretical probability. Students can see as the number of repetitions of the simulation gets higher, the probability gets closer to the theoretical probability.
